Native California Habitat Garden

A design package example for the curious and those who would like to DIY with data

Wondering what the finished project may look like? Here is an example of a recent garden design project made for DIY or contractor installation. Each design is custom made to the site’s conditions and the client’s tastes.

The client took advantage of all the city and water company rebates adding up to thousands of dollars to go towards the project. The rebates must be applied for before starting work, and a nicely drawn plan goes a long way.

This design includes new pathways, seating area, food forest, water harvesting from gutters already installed, native habitat plants, butterfly sanctuary, fast-growing privacy hedges, a new no-mow ‘lawn’ for the kids, and overall shade and tranquility for a previous just pass-thru yard.

In addition to the plan I can give you as much data as you can handle in the form of charts and color photos with details. As we go through the process you will have a chance to give your input on the plants and design, even giving a thumbs up or down to each plant choice if you like.

My current design package includes:

  • Scaled color drawings.

  • Easy to read accompanying plant list.

  • Shopping list with sizes/quantities, scientific and common names for the nursery.

  • Bloom chart shows what is in bloom each month.

  • Watering chart for each plant.

  • Plant detail sheets for each plant in the garden so you can learn about them.

  • So much data you’ll feel like a botanist.

If you plan to install the design yourself I will send you resources and instructions. If you want to use a contractor I can recommend one perfect for your project and be on hand the day of for any last minute decisions.
